Her first visit, in 2024, was short: ranked outside the top 100, she lost in the first round of qualifying to Priscilla Hon 4-6, 3-6. Two years later she came back as a main-draw player and opened with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Diane Parry of France in 1 hour 17 minutes. Her full Ningbo result is on the results page.
Getting there, tickets and match times
The tennis centre stands next to the Yinzhou swimming centre and the Yinzhou Gymnasium in the south-east of the city. The organisers have not published an English transport guide; take a taxi or ride-hailing car to No. 199 Wenhua Road, or check the latest metro and bus connections locally. Tickets are sold through Chinese ticketing platforms with real-name entry; the organiser has not published an English price list.
Ningbo is on the same time as the Philippines. On early-round days in 2026 play began at 13:00 on both show courts, with the Center Court evening match not before 19:00. On final day the doubles final started at 14:30 and the singles final was scheduled for no earlier than 17:00.

The tournament has carried the Pan Pacific Open name since 1984, although its history goes back to 1973. Until 2007 it was played indoors at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium; in 2008 it moved outdoors to Ariake. While the park was rebuilt for the Olympics, the event went to Tachikawa in 2018 and Osaka in 2019, and it was not held in 2020 and 2021. Martina Hingis holds the record with five singles titles.
In July 2021 the Ariake Coliseum staged the tennis events of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Belinda Bencic won the women's singles gold, beating Marketa Vondrousova 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, and Elina Svitolina took the bronze. Four years later Bencic came back to the same court and won the 2025 Pan Pacific Open, beating Linda Noskova 6-2, 6-3 in the final.

Alex Eala at Ariake
2026 is her first Toray Pan Pacific Open: the tournament's player list marks her as a first-time entrant. The venue itself is not new to her. In September 2023 she came through qualifying at the ITF W100 event at Ariake, the Ando Securities Open, beat Natsumi Kawaguchi 6-4, 6-3 in the first round and then lost to fifth seed Kimberly Birrell 6-4, 6-7(5), 2-6. That week's matches were played on the park's indoor hard courts.

In 2026 the main draw runs from Monday 2 to Sunday 8 November, after qualifying on 31 October and 1 November. Government sources quoted by The Standard spoke of at least 7,000 seats and construction starting within four to five years. The project is at the feasibility stage.
History: from the Salem Open to WTA Tournament of the Year
Victoria Park has hosted professional tennis for decades. The men's Hong Kong Open, long known as the Salem Open, ran from 1973 to 2002 with champions such as Rod Laver (1973) and Ivan Lendl (1980); Michael Chang won it three times. A women's event was held from 1980 to 1982 and in 1993, and the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open has been part of the WTA calendar since 2014, apart from 2019–2022 when it was not held. WTA players voted it WTA 250 Tournament of the Year in 2018, 2024 and 2025. Since 2024 the men's ATP 250 is back as well, played at Victoria Park in early January.

Alex Eala at Victoria Park
Eala made her debut at the tournament in 2025, and it felt like a home event: Filipinos are the largest ethnic minority in Hong Kong, and the stands were full of flags and signs. It was her first time playing in Hong Kong since she was about 12. In the first round she led Katie Boulter, the 2024 runner-up, 6-4, 2-1 when Boulter retired with a leg injury. In the second round she took the first set against third seed Victoria Mboko and lost 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 after 2 hours and 27 minutes; the deciding set included a single game of 21 points that lasted 15 minutes. Mboko went on to win the title.
The tournament announced on 17 September 2026 that Eala would return, and called her the leader of its 2026 field.
How to get to Victoria Park
- MTR: Causeway Bay station, Exit E (Victoria Park exit), or Tin Hau station, Exit A2 (Hing Fat Street).
- Bus: dozens of routes stop by the park, including the airport buses A11 and E11, which are on the tournament's list of routes serving Victoria Park.
- By car: there is no parking inside the park, and the Hing Fat Street public car park is small, so the organisers recommend public transport.
Inside the grounds: no outside food or drinks except bottled water, no glass, no alcohol and no video cameras; bags may be checked at the gates. Philippine passport holders can visit Hong Kong without a visa for up to 14 days, according to the Hong Kong Immigration Department (information updated in August 2026).

Melbourne gave Eala her first junior Grand Slam title: in 2020 she won the girls' doubles with Indonesia's Priska Madelyn Nugroho, beating Ziva Falkner and Matilda Mutavdzic 6-1, 6-2 in the final. As a professional the Australian Open is still the major where she is looking for a breakthrough: she lost in the first qualifying round in 2025 and in the first round of the main draw in 2026, to Alycia Parks 6-0, 3-6, 2-6 on Court 6.

It is organised by Tatler Sports & Entertainment, and tickets are sold through TicketWorld. As an exhibition it carries no ranking points.
